Everyone is a Narcissist
03:47
|
|||
You're signing up when you walk in the room
It's an agreement that we have come to
Head-on collision for an hour or two
Come tomorrow I'm still me and you're you
And you'll remember all the feelings you felt
And I'll be in a new town, colliding with someone else
Colliding with someone else
I've been thinking of a loss of position
But I'm too afraid to try
It turns out I'm living a lie
Everyone has an alibi
I'm mistaken, it was misinformation that
This was among our friends
I guess it's about the ends
But we can try to make amends
I feel bad cuz I'm in this for me
But not so bad that I would alter my history
I'm not a sellout, I just wanna get in
If you were me you wouldn't do any different
I don't feel bad that my art is a business
The best I can do is just ask your forgiveness please
Ask your forgiveness please
So
Give us money, give us money
gimme just a bit of your time
Give us money, give us money
we can make our interests align
Give us money, give us money
you do yours & i'll do mine
Give us money, give us money
1-800-LETS-COMMIT-A-CRIME
Give us money, give us money
everyone is selfish all the time

Here for the View

how do you
expect me to take you seriously
when your cereal
is all over your shirt
you've been through a lot
you look like a mess
but i like it
for what it's worth
well frankly i'm surprised but for you i'll gladly stay
i'll take the time to figure out what i'm trying to convey
why, i'll while away the hours while i stay here for a while
i'll deal with all the trash to see your crazy kitten smile
but you hide it from me
staring out the window
i tackle you onto the couch and then we're gone
y'know you try too hard
try softer
you know i'm always here for you but i'm running out of socks
every time i go to leave i swear you've changed the clocks
the sheer amount of sympathy one person can give out
will only go so far before you start to scream & shout
let's scream & shout
i'll always have my doubts
but let's scream & shout
just let some things out
but you hide it from me
staring out the window
yeah but you hide it from me
(it would kill you, it's too easy)
staring out the window
i tackle you onto the couch and then we're gone
y'know you try too hard
try softer

Alex the Postman
04:07
|
|||
When I saw him, I was sitting outside on the porch swing
A million miles an hour, too fast to notice anything
His bicycle tires left marks on the grass
And the bag on his shoulder flew behind him as he passed
Alex was essentially his own private post
He delivered for whoever could pay him the most
Today it was a special delivery on Dalton Street
A pretty long ride, but at least he'd have food to eat
The message is the medium, the medium's the letter
The message gets bigger, the pay gets better
Neither rain, nor snow, nor dark of night
Will get you through to the receiver if the message isn't right
As he sat at the intersection in the Back Bay
He considered the package he was carrying today
A labyrinth of duct tape, wrapped up in twine
Alex knew where he was going but he didn't know why
He rode up to the Hilton! He took the elevator
All the way up to the roof where he'd been told that he should wait for her
And as he stepped out, wondering who his client could be
He heard a voice behind him say:
"I think that's for me"
She had long red hair
And a calm disposition
A look on her face
That said: "Look, I'm on a mission"
A silver-striped tie
Under her jacket and vest
And a revolver pointed
Directly at Alex's chest
The message is the medium, the medium's the letter
The message gets bigger, the pay gets better
Neither rain, nor snow, nor dark of night
Will get you through to the receiver if the message isn't right
Alex woke up on the roof of the Hilton
He struggled to stand and his legs started wiltin'
He'd survived the encounter but was still pretty shaken
The package was safe, but not the money he'd been makin'
He rode down to the first floor, pushed through the front door
"You're just what we've been looking for!"
Said a man from the window of an unmarked bus:
"Would you carry letters for the noble among us?"
Alex considered this new course of action
Most of his packages never carried satisfaction
And wouldn't it be nice: messages of priority
For this strange band of travelers protecting our security
And vigilante justice wasn't Alex's thing
But under the circumstances it had a nice ring
So he got onto the bus, drove over the river
A courier lives for the right message to deliver
The message is the medium, the medium's the letter
The message gets bigger, the pay gets better
Neither rain, nor snow, nor dark of night
Will get you through to the receiver if the message isn't right
The message is the medium, the medium's the letter
The message gets bigger, the pay gets better
Neither rain, nor snow, nor dark of night
Will get you through to the receiver if the message isn't right

My flight's not long enough to make up my mind
The day's not short enough to pretend everything's fine
I heard Medford's nice in fall from the top of the hill
I can't go back and I know that I never will
I can't sleep
I don't know how
I don't know much about me now
I can't sleep
I don't know how
I don't know much about me now
To me you were a lot of things - most everything I haven't got
And I'm a lot of things as well, but adventure's what I'm not
I understand the drive you have to stare into the unknown
The part that's still lost on me is why you gotta be alone
I can't sleep
I don't know how
I don't know much about me now
I can't sleep
I don't know how
I don't know much about me now
To say I'm disappointed would understate these three years
Most of which I wasted wondering when you'd come back here
I wanted shit to settle; I was in the ready set
Turns out there's a bad spell left inside of me yet
I can't sleep
I don't know how
I don't know much about me now
I can't sleep
I don't know how
I don't know much about me now
I can't sleep
I don't know how
I don't know much about me now
I can't sleep
I don't know how
I don't know much about me now
My flight's not long enough to make up my mind
The day's not short enough to pretend everything's fine
Cheating's for the desperate and luck is for beginners
The trouble for the rest of us: we can't all be winners

i traded in the game you liked
they reimbursed me half the price
now i'll travel back in time and steal your bike
so i'll take a picture
i'll share my beliefs
and i won't eat sushi
but i think you'll agree
that you can't hate me
no, you can't hate me
it's just one more thing
you play it off like you don't care
take off the hat that you used to wear
but, hey, it's still right there
behind you on the chair
oh, sorry, buddy, were you using that chair? i'm real sorry, i'll
quit guitar
i'll quit repeatedly
and i'll quit the boy scouts
that ain't no place for me to be hangin' around, honey, you know what i'm sayin'? what i'm sayin' is that
you can't hate me
no, you can't hate me
it's just one more thing that you...
so you'll keep the pictures
the ones you hate to see so much
but you can't hate me
no, you can't hate me
it's just one more thing that you
do not destroy
so you can thrash about
you can scream your little lungs out
but don't ignore those doubts, honey
